Battlefield 2 is eagerly anticipated game that promises further improvements on what Battlefield 1942 has started, especially in online gameplay. The game is set in modern time, with all the modern weapons and equipment, in the Middle and Far East. The players will be able to take sides as US Marines, Chinese Army or fictional (at this point) Middle Eastern Coalition.
Many bugs and glitches are expected to be removed, and many new features added, most notably material penetration properties, new "Commander" player role, totally revised scoring system and persistent player profiles.
Material penetration properties have been added which will make a difference between concealment and cover. Sand bags, for example, will protect you against small arms fire, but larger calibre rounds will penetrate.
"Commander" player will be able to view the entire battlefield in aerial view and direct the teammates towards their specific objectives to attack or defend.
Scoring system has been revised from Battlefield 1942 to reflect players doing things like repairing teammates' vehicles, healing and doing similar "non-fighting" tasks. No longer will it be necessary to have the highest number of kills to get a medal.
Player profiles will be stored on EA servers, and will be progressively updated with everything the player does, whether good or bad. Players will be either respected or loathed the World over according to their actions in game.
As an obvious evolution of the current Desert Combat mod, FmJ will naturally progress towards Battlefield 2, but seeing how the release of the game has constantly been set back, there is no immediate plans for abandoning DC. We will play whatever game our Clan members show interest in playing, and we will excel at it.
